Best RGB Motherboard

When building a powerful computer, it is important to combine a powerful processor with a powerful graphics card. As for best motherboard for RGB, they won’t do much for your frame rates, but if you want features, a high-end motherboard can offer what a low-end model can’t, especially if you overclock. The best gaming motherboards have a better power supply design, excellent integrated audio, and a wide range of connectivity options.

A good gaming motherboard may not increase frame rates in games, but it will ensure that the components continue to perform for many gaming sessions.

Instead of comparing AMD and Intel, we have selected motherboards for both processor manufacturers at different price points. Whether you have $100 or $1,000 to spend on a motherboard, we have an option for you.

Best Gaming Motherboard Under $100

You can get most of the features of AMD and Intel’s flagship chipsets with their budget chipsets, although there are some notable exclusions. This price range is ideal for gamers on a budget who don’t need a lot of expandability and don’t care too much about overclocking.

However, one of the biggest savings is buying a smaller card. Both of our choices, Intel and AMD, come in Micro ATX sizes, which is generally a good rule of thumb. There are many expensive Micro ATX cards, but there are also many inexpensive ones. You can usually find a Micro ATX version of a full ATX card for $20 or $40 less.

The Gigabyte B550M DS3H is the simpler of the two. The B550 chipset has almost all the features of the high-end X570 chipset, including overclocking support. Despite its decline, the Gigabyte card we selected still supports PCIe 4.0, although it can only do so in one slot. Likewise, it can only use PCIe 4.0 in one M.2 slot (X570 cards can support two slots). The other connections use PCIe 3.0, which should not make a difference for many years, especially at this price.

Despite its small form factor, the Gigabyte B550M DS3H is packed with connectivity options, including four RAM slots that can support up to 128GB at 4600MHz (with XMP enabled). The 5+3 phase VRM design is a bit below cards around $200, but should provide a clean and stable power supply for moderate overclocks.

It is worth noting that the B550 chipset is only compatible with Ryzen 3000 and 5000 series processors, unlike the X570, which is also compatible with 2000 series processors.

For Intel, we chose an ASRock B560M-HDV, which is an excellent board considering the chipset. Intel, unlike AMD, limits overclocking to its high-end chipset (Z590 for the current generation). This includes CPU overclocking. Unlike the previous generation, this B560 board supports RAM overclocking up to 5,000 MHz with XMP enabled.

Overclocking is an important feature to forgo, but this has been the case for some time with Intel’s budget-oriented chipsets. Even without overclocking, the ASRock B560M-HDV comes with other features, including support for PCIe 4.0 in one slot, and Gigabit Ethernet. It only has a six-stage VRM design, but that doesn’t matter too much without overclocking support.

Best Gaming Motherboard Under 200

Unless you have a very specific need, there’s really no reason to spend more than $200 on a gaming motherboard. For that price, you’re able to buy the latest and greatest chipset from AMD or Intel, and you have access to premium features like front USB-C, better VRM power design, overclocking support, and high-speed memory support.

The MSI Z590-A Pro features the LGA 1200 socket for 10th and 11th generation Intel processors, as well as a host of USB and storage connections. It features an 8+4-pin CPU connector, which seamlessly supplies power through a 15-phase VRM. Unlike the previous Intel board, this one supports overclocking for Intel K series processors.

Both of these boards represent the pinnacle of gaming motherboards for their respective platforms, and it shows in their comprehensive specifications and features. The Best RGB Motherboard for Intel processors can support extremely fast memory, multiple graphics cards, and huge storage arrays, and has tons of USB ports to connect all your various peripherals. It also features a stylish shield across the board, making it an attractive and functional high-end motherboard.

The Maximus series has always been known for its exceptional quality VRMs, and the Maximum XIII Hero is no different with its 14+2 phase design. It also supports multiple network connections right out of the box, including Wi-Fi and high-speed Bluetooth, and its RGB lighting is fantastic, giving you total control over the look and feel of your PC’s interior.

The much higher priced Gigabyte X570 Aorus Extreme card has a lot to offer AMD users who opt for next-generation CPUs. It’s also a very capable gaming card, with plenty of storage options and more USB ports than anyone needs. It supports the same high-speed memory and has an excellent audio chip.

It also has native support for Wi-Fi 6 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet for super-fast networking. It’s also one of the few x570 motherboards that stays cool no matter what, so much so that its chipset doesn’t even need a fan. Its VRM also has a large amount of conductive metal on the surface, which allows the 16-phase configuration to stay cool for advanced overclocking and incredible system stability.

These cards are also fully compatible with many different graphics cards, for both Nvidia and AMD GPU users. Their PCIe slots are “shielded”, meaning they are reinforced to counteract dropping with high-end and heavy graphics cards.

Truth be told, these cards are beyond most people’s needs, but if you’re looking for a top-notch motherboard that pairs well with your other high-end components, you’ll certainly be pleased.
